“His Majesty’s Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.”
– Lord Arthur Balfour, British Foreign Secretary, November 2, 1917
This timely and important class will inform the student about the biblical and historical background that surrounds the modern State of Israel and the current situation in the Middle East. In addition, the class will explore the impact these events have had on the worldwide Jewish community and the Church.
The first part of the class, a theological overview of Zionism and the establishment of the State of Israel, deals with such questions as:
- What is Zion and Zionism?
- What does the Bible have to say about God’s plan for the Jewish people?
- How does Israel fit into the biblical revelation?
The second part of the class, which explores the rise of the Zionist Movement from 1839 until 1947, examines the significant people and events God raised up to establish the modern State.
The third part of the class will focus on the history of the modern State from 1948 until the present. How did this tiny country survive the onslaught of vastly superior enemies, dedicated then and dedicated today to its demise? Who are the major players in the Middle East today? Why do they hate Israel? This segment of the class will help you understand and evaluate the news reports coming out of Israel.
