The Book of Revelation is a key book to help God’s children know how God’s plan for our world is going to end. The book brings comfort as we learn that God is in control and He is moving toward the return of Jesus to this earth and the working out His plan. To many people, Revelation has been confusing. They read about dragons, angels, beasts, locusts with human faces, different colored horses and throw their hands up in despair and ask, “what does all this mean?” In our verse by verse study of the book we will learn that the book gives us the key to its interpretation in 1:19, “Write therefore the things that you have seen, those that are and those that are to take place after this.”
There are three major differences among Bible students in how they view Revelation:
It has been fulfilled in the past
It is a timeless depiction of the cosmic struggle between the forces of good and evil
It will be fulfilled in the future
We will see that when the normal rules of Bible interpretation are used, the future approach makes the most sense. We will find that Revelation will help us understand the events surrounding the return of our Lord, God’s promised kingdom for Israel, the final judgment and the eternal state.
Revelation begins with a great promise for us in 1:3: “Blessed in the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.”
Come and be blessed.
