It might be said of the Book of Genesis that “it is shallow enough for a baby to wade in, yet deep enough for an elephant to swim in.” Genesis is very easy to read; one could read it to a child and the child could follow the interesting stories in the book. Yet, some of the most profound truths of God are found in Genesis, as well as some of the most heated controversies. Genesis is a book to read, studied, and studied again.
This course will involve an intensive, but understandable verse by verse study of Genesis. All of the stories, from creation to the death of Joseph in Egypt will be discussed. When it is helpful to our understanding, the original Hebrew will be looked at in a way that is understandable to those who do not read Hebrew. We will look at the big picture, including all of the stories in Genesis, as well as the details of key passages in the book, such as the three verses that make up the Abrahamic covenant.
