The Book of Deuteronomy
with Robert Morris

The Word of Life Study Bible provides us with a succinct and relevant introduction to the Book of Deuteronomy.

In the Book of Deuteronomy, we have Moses’ farewell address to the people of Israel. Knowing that they would soon enter Canaan without him, Moses was responsible for reminding them of the binding agreement, or covenant, that their parents had made with the Lord at Mount Sinai. A great many of those who heard Moses’ speech had not even been born when the original covenant was made. Now young adults, they needed to know what was expected of them as they entered the Promised Land.

Deuteronomy is not just a repeat of Exodus and Leviticus. It is the summary of a godly heritage, a record of God’s faithfulness during more than forty difficult years. It is also the final pronouncement of a great leader.

As you read Deuteronomy, put yourself in Moses’ shoes, and then in the shoes of his listeners. Either way, you’ll see the importance of telling future generations about the works and words of God.
