Join us as we go through what is perhaps the most fascinating book in the Bible, the Book of Daniel. It is so intriguing because it is to the Old Testament what Revelation is to the New Testament. In this book, the prophet Daniel gives us a panorama of the history of the world. This book contains fascinating details of the events which will precede Jesus’ return. It reveals to us the future events of the return of Jesus the Messiah to the earth and the establishment of His kingdom. Daniel’s life was impacted by the revelations God gave him of the future and ours will be too as we study this important part of Scripture.

Liberal theologians have relentlessly attacked Daniel because of the miracles in the book and the prophecies. Daniel has suffered more from his critics than he did from the lions in the lions’ den. As we go through the book we will be refreshed in our understanding that God has inspired His Word (including the Book of Daniel).

The Book of Daniel also has much to teach us about Daniel, the man. There is much we can learn from his uncompromising lifestyle as he, a Jew in exile, handled the onslaughts of a pagan Babylonian society. We will learn much in this book about how we can live a godly life in our culture.

The most important lesson for us in studying Daniel, the man and the book, is that we will learn that God is the Unchanging Sovereign of the universe. We will catch glimpses of this throughout the book. It is summarized well after God reveals Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and its meaning to Daniel in chapter 2, when Daniel prays, “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belongs wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. To you, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, for you have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we asked of you, for you have made known to us the king’s matter” (Dan. 2:20-23). Prepare to know the unchanging sovereign God better as a result of studying Daniel.

John MacArthur has summed up why we should study the Book of Daniel: [in the Book of Daniel] “we’re going to see the great eternal secrets of the future and yet we’re going to learn how to live life right now. And you’re going to see how marvelously blended these things are.”
