You are invited to join us for a journey through the Book of Acts. The official name of the Book of Acts is “The Acts of the Apostles,” but a better title would be “The Acts of the Holy Spirit.” As we study this book, we will trace the activity of the Holy Spirit through the birth, infancy, and adolescent years of Christ’s church.
Acts is a book of twenty-eight thrilling chapters. Any one of them can be read a dozen times, only to find its fascination growing with each reading. The stories in the book are interesting, but the message of the book will draw our attention even more. Acts has a lot to grab our attention: astounding miracles, powerful preaching, breathtaking escapes, harrowing journeys, courtroom dramas, action and adventure. However, we can easily miss the story behind the stories. As we make our way through the book, we will see the fascinating work of God in the lives of individuals. When we leave the disciples at the end of the Gospels, they are running scared and abandoning their Lord. Yet in Acts, we see that God transformed them from cowardly to courageous. And then God transforms a zealous Pharisee named Saul of Tarsus into an Apostle who takes the Gospel to places that have never heard it.
Some of the matters we will pay attention to are:
- What happened on the Day of Pentecost and does it have an impact on us today?
- Speaking in tongues
- Persecution and the church
- Why would God strike dead a couple like Ananias and Sapphira?
- The transformation of Saul of Tarsus
- Peter and the vision of the sheet with unclean animals
- Paul’s missionary journeys and what they teach us about evangelism
Join us as we discover what made the early Church strong and how it challenged the pagan culture of its time.
