The Book of Psalms Pastor Dennis began his ministry at Irvine Community Church on September 1, 1968 and it expanded to a permanent full-time ministry when he graduated from Biola in 1969. He has served the Lord continually at ICC until the present. Dennis and his wife Terry have two sons, Steve and Mark. |

In the New Testament, we learn that our Lord placed a very high value on the Old Testament because each book testifies of Him. Every Christian should study the Old Testament to learn more about Christ. Yet many believers are intimidated when they come to the Old Testament and so they neglect it.
In this course we will try to remove the intimidation many have of the Old Testament as we look at each book in an overview. The goal is that by seeing the broad view together, you will then study the details in your private devotions and understand it better because you will see how the parts relate to the whole.
Mark Dever in The Message of the Old Testament describes what we will be doing this way:
If Christ is the key to human history, the Old Testament carefully describes the lock.
If Christ is the climax of the story, the Old Testament sets the stage and begins the plot.
Do you read just the endings of books? If the New Testament presents God’s promises kept, the Old Testament tells us about God’s promises made.
In other words, if you don’t get what the Old Testament teaches you’ll never get Christ. Our God does not waste words. Each Testament needs the other. In order to acquire a sense of the grandiosity of God’s work, the majesty of His plan, the tenacity of His love, there is no replacement for the Old Testament. Deprive yourself of this part of God’s revelation, and your God will seem smaller, less holy, and less loving than God really is.
